Dubai in September: What’s Open, What’s Closed and When to Visit

f you’re thinking about travelling to Dubai in September, there’s one thing you need to know before you book: it’s still off-season.

September falls towards the end of Dubai’s extremely hot summer, with temperatures often reaching around 40°C during the day. Because of this, some of the city’s outdoor attractions close during the summer months, while others operate with reduced hours. It can feel a little strange arriving in a city famous for its incredible outdoor attractions and discovering that some of them are temporarily shut.

One of the most popular seasonal attractions affected is Dubai Miracle Garden, which closes during the summer and normally reopens towards the end of the year when temperatures become more comfortable. If walking through millions of colourful flowers, exploring the huge floral displays and taking those picture-perfect photos is on your Dubai bucket list, you’ll need to plan your trip for later in the year.

But that doesn’t mean Dubai is closed.

In fact, September can be a great time to visit if you know how to plan your days.

So, What Can You Do in Dubai in September?

The heat means that indoor attractions are your best friend. Dubai is packed with places where you can escape the temperatures while still having an amazing day.

Dubai Mall is an obvious choice. It’s far more than just a shopping centre, with an aquarium, restaurants, entertainment and plenty of shops to keep you occupied for hours.

You can also visit the Museum of the Future, explore the Dubai Aquarium, spend the day at an indoor theme park, or try Deep Dive Dubai for something completely different.

And, of course, there’s the hotel pool.

September can be a fantastic time to enjoy Dubai’s hotels and resorts. With fewer tourists around compared with the busier winter months, you may find some good summer deals on hotels, pool days and experiences. Rather than trying to pack every outdoor activity into one day, you can slow things down and enjoy the luxury side of Dubai.

The evenings are also a good opportunity to get out and explore. Head to the marina, enjoy dinner overlooking the water, visit one of the city's many restaurants or take an evening trip into the desert when temperatures have dropped.

When Does Dubai Come Back to Life?

If you want to experience the full Dubai experience, I would recommend waiting until the new season begins.

From around October onwards, the weather gradually becomes more comfortable, although the real difference is noticeable as you move into November and December. This is when Dubai's outdoor attractions really start to come back into their own.

It’s also the time of year when seasonal attractions such as Dubai Miracle Garden reopen, along with other outdoor experiences that aren't practical during the intense summer heat.

The cooler months are ideal for exploring attractions such as Global Village, spending more time at the beach, enjoying outdoor restaurants and rooftop venues, taking desert safaris and simply walking around the city without immediately looking for the nearest air-conditioned building.

Is September Worth Visiting?

Absolutely  but it depends on what you're looking for.

If your dream Dubai holiday involves Miracle Garden, Global Village, outdoor dining, beach days and exploring the city in comfortable temperatures, I'd wait until the new season starts.

However, if you're looking for a quieter holiday, great hotel time, shopping, indoor attractions and the chance to experience Dubai without the winter crowds, September can still be a good option.

Just go knowing that Dubai is in its summer slowdown. Some things will be closed, the heat is intense and you'll need to plan your days around the temperatures.

But come October and into November, the city starts waking up again and that's when Dubai really becomes the destination most people imagine.
