For this edition of The 90 Minute Trip, we’re heading inland from Larnaca to Omodos Village, one of Cyprus’ most charming and character-filled mountain villages.

Tucked away in the Troodos Mountains, Omodos feels like a step back in time. Stone houses, winding cobbled streets, and vine-covered courtyards make it the perfect escape from the coast,  and you're there in under 90 minutes.

As you approach Omodos, the scenery changes quickly. Coastal views give way to rolling hills, vineyards, and cooler mountain air. Parking is available just outside the village, and from there everything is best explored on foot.

Once inside, you’ll find narrow stone lanes lined with traditional houses, small shops, and cafés spilling out into shaded courtyards. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down.

Here are some things you can do in Omodos:

Holy Cross Monastery: At the heart of the village sits the Monastery of the Holy Cross, one of the most important religious sites in Cyprus. The surrounding square is a great place to pause, take photos, and soak up the atmosphere, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.

Wine & Local Produce: Omodos is famous for its wine-making history, and you’ll find several local wineries offering tastings. Along the streets, small shops sell local honey, olive oil, carob products, handmade lace, and traditional sweets, perfect for souvenirs or gifts.

Get Lost on Purpose: One of the best things to do in Omodos is simply wander. Every turn reveals hidden courtyards, flower-filled balconies, and quiet corners that feel untouched by time. Bring your camera, this village is incredibly photogenic.

Omodos has no shortage of traditional tavernas serving Cypriot classics like souvlaki, meze, and slow-cooked dishes made with local ingredients. Many restaurants are family-run and offer outdoor seating, making them ideal for a long, relaxed lunch.

If you’re visiting in cooler months, a coffee or glass of local wine by a fireplace is a must.

Omodos is proof that you don’t need to travel far to feel like you’ve gone somewhere special. Rent yourself a car and in just 90 minutes from Larnaca, you can experience traditional village life, rich history, incredible food, and slower rhythms, all in one day.
