Marrakech, Morocco as a travel destination – a Closer Look

Marrakech is one of the largest and most important cities in Morocco. It is a vital cultural and economic center. Each year, the city receives more than 2 million tourists.

Another great thing about Marrakech is the proximity to other major cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, and Agadir. They give a huge boost to tourism since visitors often prefer traveling around the entire country.

Ever since its establishment in the early eleventh century, the town of Marrakech has been steadily expanding. It quickly developed into a regional center; connecting all other towns along the Atlantic coast. However, this made it an important strategic point. Because of that, there were many wars, sieges, and coups in the past.

In recent decades, the city has created a positive image for itself; becoming a popular travel destination and a center for rock concerts, fashion forums, and film production.

The city of Marrakech receives huge amounts of visitors during the entire year because of its hot tropical climate. Another reason why the tourists love this place is the culture. Different events such as festivals, exhibits of modern art, or concerts attract visitors from all over the world.

Some of the famous attractions include:

The beautiful Majorelle Garden. It is a lush and green botanical garden which lies in the heart of Marrakech. There are also a villa complex and a museum here. Feel free to visit the gardens when going sightseeing. You can just relax and enjoy the scenery.

The large Bahia Palace. Its tectonic style is truly unique. The palace has a courtyard and a park. There is also a chain of small gardens which encircle the court.

When traveling to Marrakech, make sure to visit the old Saadian Tombs. The Saadian dynasty built them in the late sixteenth century. The tombs are well-preserved even to this day. They are one of the main tourist attractions.

The El Badi Palace is another one of Marrakech’s treasures. Though there was a long period of ruin, the recent restoration is underway. The palace is currently open to visitors. Many people admire the beautiful craftsmanship and decorations.
